Many people believe that organic CBD is a guarantee of better quality and healthier products. For several reasons, this is not always true. Although marketing a product with organic CBD oil may be a great idea, it is important that you, the consumer, understand what this mark means and how it can lead to substandard CBD products.

THE USDA ORGANIC CORPORATION PROGRAM

The United States Department of Agriculture regulates the organic certification of food and agricultural products. The USDA regulates organic certification to ensure that consumers get what they paid for. Here’s the definition of organic CBD and organic carrots:

100% Organic

A product that has been certified as 100% organic meets all USDA requirements. It contains only organic ingredients. This covers both ingredients that were grown by the manufacturer and ingredients from other suppliers.

USDA Certified Organic

Products labelled Certified Organic must contain at minimum 95% certified organic ingredients. The USDA certified every stage of the organic process, from growers to processors to handlers to shippers to ensure that organic standards are being met.

Organic

Products labelled organic can not contain synthetic chemicals, pesticides or insecticides. GMO ingredients or artificial additives cannot be used in the product. This is sometimes mistakenly called USDA certification. Instead of regular certification of all facilities, processes and facilities, inspections are made of the facilities involved with growing, processing or handling the product.

Made with Organic Ingredients

To be able to label a product with this distinction 70% must have been certified organic.

IS ORGANIC CBD HARMED OR MORE NATURAL?

Many people believe that this is what an organic certification mark from USDA means. Unfortunately, it’s not true.

The Percentages don’t always add up. Despite “100% Organic” sounding like 100%, each ingredient must be Certified Organic or 95% organic. A CBD oil product that contains organic CBD oil has a higher percentage of organic ingredients. This means that less than 100% is organic.

Hidden ingredients are often hidden in the 5% per ingredient. These ingredients may not be listed on your product’s label. The manufacturer may not have a listing from their supplier to identify them. This is especially true if there is a 5% discrepancy.

Peracetic acid is synthetic and doesn’t necessarily mean no chemicals. Despite the organic designation, the USDA maintains a list of synthetic and non-synthetic chemicals you can use on crops and still get organic certification.

The certification does not assess accidental exposure, but only the actions and processes of growers, processors and handlers. Organic CBD fields are still considered organic if a neighboring field is sprayed and then the wind blows chemicals onto them.

The crop will still be organic if the groundwater has been contaminated by chemical runoff. This is done to protect producers from being unfairly affected by the actions of farmers who are not their fault, but the practical result is that cropped is certified organic despite being exposed to synthetic chemicals.

It doesn’t address quality standards or processing. If you went to a restaurant that had a clean facility, but the chef didn’t wash his hands before cooking, you wouldn’t feel safe.

Organic certification is similar in that it only looks at the ingredients and not the final processes. This leaves a lot of room for contamination, which could potentially cause you harm.

What does NATURALLY GROWN MEAN?

We don’t spend a lot of money on organic CBD certifications. Instead, we ensure that our growers provide us with CBD-rich hemp grown naturally. This means that industrial hemp is grown in areas where there are no synthetic insecticides or herbicides.

To get the highest yield and quality, they use natural crop management methods. After the plants have been harvested, the leaves, stems and flowers are sent to our Colorado processing plant. To minimize contamination, our professionals are dressed in specialized suits and work in clean rooms to process hemp using pharmaceutical-grade machines.

To ensure the product’s purity and potency, all products are subject to rigorous testing. This ensures that you receive high-quality CBD, without any THC that could cause you to get high. This also means that our product is free from chemical contamination.
